Artist Feature: Frank Frazetta

Another legendary, award-winning sci-fi artist has come to the Inked Gaming collection this year, and his work is now featured on a vast selection of our gear. Even though Frank Frazetta has passed on, his work lives on and still continues to spark inspiration and intrigue among those who seek characters and creatures from beyond our world. In fact, Star Wars creator, George Lucas, once referenced Frank’s work as the inspiration for his epic space saga.

Also known as the “Godfather of fantasy art”, Frank Frazetta is considered one of the most acclaimed illustrators of the 20th century. The Brooklyn native first burst on the scene back in the 1940s, when he began sketching for sci-fi comic books, which he himself was a fan of from a young age. 

“By the time I was a teenager, I knew I wanted to be an artist. I was a born draftsman and liked all forms of art, so I just knew that's what I wanted to do.” — Frank Frazetta

After achieving great success and notoriety for his comic book art, Frank’s world and work began to expand to other industries. In addition to comics and paperbacks, Frank’s designs have also appeared on LP Record Albums and even movie posters. Now, we can add playmats, mousepads, dice bags, and more to that list. We think that would’ve made Frank proud!

So far, we’ve added six Frank Frazetta designs to our collection, all of which are now printed on some of our best pieces. Shortly after listing these new items and arts, we began to see them float to the top of the chart, so to speak, where they now are among some of our other most popular products.

We mentioned earlier that Frank Frazetta is an award-winning artist, and based on the art shown here, those awards are well-deserved. He has also been inducted into the Comic Book, Society of Illustrators, Science Fiction, and Album Cover Hall of Fame (posthumously).

Just like our other favorite sci-fi artist, Michael Whelan, Frank has received a lot of accolades for his work. Also, just like Michael Whelan, we’re absolutely thrilled to have some of Frank’s most memorable pieces printed on our goods!
