Have You Heard The News? Google Announced Their New Gaming Platform Stadia
Greetings, all! In March Google announced they were creating a cloud streaming gaming service called Stadia. But…. at the time they didn’t give us much of the important information. Like, how much is it going to cost? What games are going to be available? You know, all of those important things that we need to know before we can decide if we’re going to get hyped about something like this.
Yesterday, Google announced the remaining details about Stadia in their live stream. The early release version will launch in November 2019, with the remainder coming in 2020. The Pro version of this service will cost a monthly fee of $9.99 and the controllers will be $70 each. However, there is a founder’s edition available for pre-order right now for $129. According to the website, the founder’s edition will get you access to the platform in November and include a Google Chromecast Ultra, an exclusive controller, a ‘Buddy Pass’ of 3 months of the Pro version to give away to a friend, and three months of Pro for yourself.
At the beginning of the stream, Google’s vice president and general manager Phil Harrison stated that the platform’s goal is to “Make gaming more accessible for everyone.” He said that Stadia is going to make it possible for us to play games on any screen: TV, laptop, tablet, select phones, etc. with more to come after the platform launches. No console will be required, you just use Google Cloud, grab your controller, and go. They have also announced the first wave of games that will be available at launch, including Destiny 2, the recently announced Baldur's Gate 3, the Tomb Raider Trilogy, and more.
The concept of this platform does seem very intriguing to a lot of people. There is a lot of chatter, positive and negative, on news sites and blogs speculating about what this platform can do. Personally, I’m excited to see how it develops. We have a long way to wait before November shows us what this platform is really capable of, but it could mean big things for the gaming community!
