Pokémon Sword & Shield: Chilling Reign expansion is coming soon
It looks like it’s going to get cold this summer! It’s going to be very cold indeed with the release of the highly anticipated Pokémon Sword & Shield: Chilling Reign expansion that is set to come out this June. I’m writing this in mid-April and given how fast four months have gone by this year, June doesn’t really see too far off.
The news and updates surrounding this latest expansion have been quite revealing and informative so far, many of which come directly from the source - pokemon.com. I realize that many of our readers like to stay up to date on the latest news happening in the TCG, especially when it comes to Pokémon. But, like I always point out in every one of these upcoming release/announcement blogs, there’s always someone who may be a little bit behind, which is why I bring stories like this to everyone’s attention. And, truth be told if it’s about Pokémon, I just HAVE to write about it.
In this blog, we’ll cover some of the valuable info that’s been revealed about the Chilling Reign expansion so far and what we can expect from it as we draw closer to its release date. With that said, let’s see what this expansion has in store for us!
According to numerous sources, including Pokémon, Chilling Reign will introduce players to close to 200 new cards (over 190 to be exact) and a host of other new, awesome features that will make the game even more exciting. Of those 190 or so cards, 25 will be new Trainers, 15 will be new Pokémon V cards, eight will be Pokémon VMAX cards, and three will be new energy cards. Now, we don’t know the identities of ALL these cards yet, but we do know a few of the big-name headliners, such as the Ice Rider Calyrex VMAX and Shadow Rider Calyrex VMAX. We’ll also see the Galarian forms of Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres.
Here’s a look at some of those Pokémon as they will appear in the expansion. They should look familiar:
Additionally, the Chilling Reign expansion will introduce us to over 70 new Battle Style cards as well, which players can add to their Single Strike or Rapid Strike decks. For those who don’t know, Pokemon Sword & Shield: Battle Styles is the latest expansion that was released in late March. So, it seems that the Chilling Reign expansion will be a nice, lucrative follow-up to that.
The official launch/release date for the Pokémon Sword & Shield: Chilling Reign expansion is June 18th. I’ve already visited several websites that actually have the packs in stock and will be unlocked and available for purchase on that very day. Until then, we’re just going to have to be patient and let something else occupy our time. I can assure you that yours truly will be marking his calendar in the meantime, and I’m sure many others will be, too!
Be sure to leave me your expectations for this expansion, and any other updates that you may come across over the next couple of months in the comments below!
Until we meet again,
Vince The Prince
